Was surprised to read these quotes from Albert Einstein on capitalism but always interesting to read different views. What resonated with me is capitalism has lead to more individualism in our society and that loss of community. I’ve had the privilege of traveling and spending extended periods of times in various countries and you can’t help but notice the sense of community in countries that are not as developed as the US. While in the poorest parts of Calcutta, India, I noticed how beautiful their sense of community was.
With that said, you also can’t help but notice the poverty, suffering, and ultimately death happening in the poorest countries. Capitalism has been incredible for lifting individuals out of poverty and past subsistence.
G.K. Chesterton has written on this topic but what comes to my mind is how can we shape capitalism better to not sacrifice and communal side?
